[ARCHIVED] Union Pacific's Big Red Express

The.Big Red Express will be coming to Columbus on Saturday, June 28, 2014, at approximately 10:05 a.m.

The Express involves vintage Union Pacific Railroad Company train cars travelling from Omaha to North Platte. Onboard will be the Athletic Director and coaching staff from the various University of Nebraska teams.

In anticipation of the arrival in Columbus, the following street closures will occur beginning at 7:00 a.m.

  • 25th Avenue from 11th Street north to the alley north of 12th Street.
  • 26th Avenue from 11th Street north to the alley north of 12th Street.
  • 12th Street from 25th Avenue to 27th Avenue.
  • The railroad crossing at 25th and 26th Avenues will also be closed during the event.

The public attending this event will be allowed to park in the leased parking lot on the south side of 12th Street west of 26th Avenue and other parking areas in the downtown area.

The streets will reopen to traffic upon the departure of the Big Red Express at 11:05 a.m. as the train heads west to Grand Island.
