[ARCHIVED] City Of Columbus Parks Season Officially Opens

Spring into spring by appreciating Columbus city parks! We welcome citizens and visitors to Columbus to enjoy our various parks.

With the warmer weather, the park restrooms and drinking fountains are now operational as we hope the threat of freezing pipes is over. Several dead cottonwood trees have been removed from Pawnee Park and fallen branches have been picked up along with other debris that accumulated during the winter months in all parks.

Columbus has 14 parks located throughout the city (see listing on city’s website) with different facilities at each location to include baseball, disc golf, fishing, football, horseshoe, playground equipment, sand volleyball, softball, skate park, swimming, tennis, track and water park.

Reservations for using the Pawnee Park shelters can be obtained by calling the City Clerk’s office at 402-562-4224. No alcoholic beverages are allowed in any city park, except for special permission at Gerrard Park. It is also illegal to bring animals into the parks without the use of a leash. The exception is the Dog Park located outside the city limits north of the city off 18th Avenue just south of the Loup Power canal.

Fishing is permitted in Pawnee Park and Hospital Park Lake and is subject to Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and/or posted city fishing regulations.

Pawnee Plunge is scheduled to open Saturday, May 23, 2015.

Pawnee Park is also the home of several Columbus landmarks, historical markers, Bell Tower and Higgins Memorial.
