Ron Bogus is a lifelong resident of Platte County, born and raised in Platte Center. He is a graduate of Platte Center High School and has lived in Columbus since 1955. Upon graduation from high school, he attended Northeast Community College where he majored in communications and is a member of that institution’s Hall of Success.

He is married to the former Bonnie Foltz of Platte Center. They have four grown children—Randy of Omaha, Deb (Paul) Schlickbernd of West Point, Tami (Larry) Buntgen of Eden Prairie, MN., and Rick of Columbus. They have 10 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Ron spent nine years as a reporter-photographer for the local newspaper and five years as news director for a local radio station. He then spent the next 26 years in the public relations/public affairs department with Nebraska Public Power District in Columbus retiring as the Manager of Public Affairs.

Ron served a short unexpired term on the Columbus City Council, by appointment, in the 1980s. He became a candidate and was elected in November, 2002. He is serving his third 4-year term on the council and his current term will expire in 2014. Representing the council, he is the chairman of the Northeast Nebraska Solid Waste Coalition Board.

Previously, Ron served 18 years on the Columbus Board of Parks and Recreational Commissioners and was an original member of the Columbus Golf Advisory Board.

Ron is a member of the Elks, Eagles, Sons of the American Legion and St. Isidore’s Catholic Church where he has served on the church council and as a lector. He is an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus.

He has earned accreditation with the Public Relations Society of America and he was a member of the Omaha Press Club, Nebraska Press Association and the Nebraska Broadcaster’s Association.
