John LohrTerm: 12/2004 to 12/2016

John F. Lohr was born and raised in Columbus, Nebraska. He graduated from Columbus High School and was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science as well as a Master’s Degree in Economics from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah. John served for three years in the U. S. Army during which time he volunteered for a year's tour in Vietnam's Northern I Corps. He was awarded the Bronze Star for service.

Upon his return from duty in the Army, John began his work career with UPLAND Industries, the real estate division of the Union Pacific Railroad at the time, as a development specialist. John then moved back to Columbus to assume duties and eventually the ownership of the family-owned business, Lohr Petroleum Company, established by his father "Bus" in 1932. After 30 years in various positions with Lohr Petroleum, John merged the business with Sapp Bros. Petroleum and ultimately retired from the business. After leaving Lohr Petroleum, John was hired as the first Foundation Director of the Columbus Community Hospital Foundation having served on the Hospital Board as Chairman of the Board during the building of the new community hospital.

Over the years, John has been involved in many civic activities. He is a board member of NeighborWorks Northeast Nebraska, the Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce, First National Bank where he serves as Chair of the Compliance Committee and served 10 years on the Board of the Northeast Nebraska Economic Development District. He was elected to the Columbus City Council in 2004 and re-elected in 2008 and 2012. He has served as Chair of the Public Property, Safety and Works Committee, City Council President and currently serves on the Public Finance, Judiciary and Personnel Committee. John is a member of the Kellogg Foundation "Rural People - Rural Policy" initiative, and a Nebraska Diplomat.

John has been married to Kathleen (Rasmussen) Lohr for over 30 years. They have one son, John S., who is married and lives in Poznan, Poland with his wife Angelika and their two sons.
