Water Safety Instructor Classes

2017 WSI Classes

Please read the following information about the classes prior to signing up
-WSI Registration can only be done by the Aquatics Supervisor or Manager. 
-Please do not sign up over the Friday evening-Sunday weekend hours.
-If a Supervisor is not in the office please write your name and number, and leave  it with the front desk. 
-A Supervisor will get back to you the next time we are in the office. 

The City will cover the cost of a WSI class ($160.00 value) for anyone working exclusively for the City of Columbus (Aquatic Center and/or Pawnee Plunge).

Class Participants will be certified as an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI).

Participants are required to attend class for the full length of time class is held.

No refunds will be given for any reason.

Prospective WSI students are urged to practice the pre-requisites (listed below) at the Aquatic Center prior to signing up for the class. Those practicing swimming skills will be admitted at no charge.  

Must be at least 16 years of age prior to the last day class is in session

Must be able to demonstrate the following swimming skills at a Level 4 (LTS 4)
     Front Crawl  -  25 yards
     Back Crawl  -  25 yards
     Breaststroke  -  25 yards
     Elementary Backstroke  -  25 yards
     Sidestroke  -  25 yards
     Butterfly  -  15 yards

Maintain position on back for 1 minute in deep water (floating or sculling)

Tread water for 1 minute
