The Solid Waste Transfer Station provides efficient and safe handling of solid waste from Columbus and the surrounding area. This facility allows collection vehicles, contractors, and residents to dispose of their Municipal Solid Waste (MSW). All MSW received at the facility is loaded into transfer trailers and taken to the Northeast Nebraska Solid Waste Coalition Landfill, in Clarkson, NE. Visit Hours of Operation for details on hours.
The Transfer Station provides free drop service for yard waste and lawn clippings to the residents of Columbus. Woodwaste and brush are ground into mulch, and provided to the public free of charge. This mulch is suitable for use in flower gardens, landscaping, and other areas.
Used oil, clean of contaminants, can be recycled and accepted during operating hours. For further information see the Oil Recycling Brochure (PDF).
Banned materials (PDF) and wastes defined as hazardous by Federal and State regulations will not be accepted.
