• Chemicals are added to the water for disinfection, corrosion, ph adjustment and to reduce cavities and tooth decay.
• The average daily demand is 5,200,000 gallons per day and the historic peak demand is 14,160,000 gallons.
• The average tap water temperature varies from 52 degrees in the winter to 55 degrees during the summer.
• The system has a combined pumping capacity of 18,000 gallons per minute.
• The water hardness is 285 mg / l or an equivalent of 16.8 grains.
• The Water Production Division currently has 11 active production wells with an average depth of 125 feet.
• The water storage system consists of two water towers, one ground storage reservoir and one below ground water reservoir.
• This storage supply provides 50 - 55 pounds per square inch (psi) of pressure in the distribution system and for fire protection.

Consumer Confidence Report

Consumer Confidence Reports (CCRs) are annual brochures available to every water utility customer in Columbus to explain the local water quality issues from the previous year. The City of Columbus takes steps to provide the information to people who do not receive water bills, such as individual apartment residents, by July 1st of each year. Consumer Confidence Reports are the centerpiece of the right-to-know provisions in the 1996 Amendments to the Safe Drinking Water Act.
