Welcome to Columbus, Nebraska
Columbus, Nebraska, is a forward-looking community that is known as the "City of Power and Progress." We strive to provide a positive atmosphere where businesses can prosper and families can enjoy an enhanced quality of life. We work hard to provide a safe, attractive, and well-maintained community through superior customer service for all our citizens and visitors.
Located 85 miles west of Omaha and 75 miles northwest of Lincoln, Columbus has managed to keep its unemployment rates lower than the national and state averages. According to the SafeWise Report, Columbus is ranked 3rd in the 2017 Top Ten Safest Cities in Nebraska, based on the 2015 FBI Crime Report. The low unemployment rate, quality educational system, varied employment opportunities, and large manufacturing sector have contributed to the city's success. The headquarters of Nebraska Public Power District, Loup Power District, Cornhusker Public Power District, and the Nebraska Electric Generation and Transmission Cooperative Inc. are located in Columbus.
Columbus provides many fine opportunities for recreation with three local golf courses, hiking and biking trails, beautiful parks, fishing in nearby lakes and rivers, Pawnee Plunge Water Park, and sightseeing at many beautiful landmarks. A Columbus Days event is held every August for four fun-filled days with family-fun entertainment, barbecue, music, arts, and a parade.
Whether you are visiting for business or pleasure, we know you will enjoy the many opportunities available in our city.
Sincerely, James B. Bulkley
