Road construction that will take place along 23rd Street in Columbus in the near future will be discussed during a Nebraska Department of Transportation meeting tonight in town.
NDOT will host a pre-construction public information open house regarding improvements to U.S. Highway 30 from 5-7 p.m. at the American Legion Hartman Post 84, 2263 Third Ave. in Columbus.
The construction is set to occur from just east of the north jurisdiction of U.S. Highway 81 and U.S. 30, extending to just east of the 11th avenue intersection, and is scheduled to begin this spring.
According to NDOT, the highway project would be constructed under traffic with lane closures controlled by approved temporary traffic control strategies and devices. Access to adjacent properties would be maintained, NDOT noted, but could be limited at times due to phasing requirements.
There will be a formal presentation at 5:15 p.m. and personnel from NDOT and the contractor will be available to answer questions.
City Engineer Rick Bogus said he will be in attendance and encourages the public to attend if possible.
