Residents will soon have a chance to voice their thoughts on the future of Gerrard and Pawnee parks come early May.
The City of Columbus’ Parks and Recreation Department and creative firm Confluence have announced an open house is set to take place from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, May 3rd, 2023, in the Columbus City Council Chambers, 1369 25th Ave.
Earlier this month, members of the City of Columbus Parks and Recreation and Engineering departments, as well as other City leaders and an advisory committee, met at both locations to discuss potential ideas with Confluence.
“This was an opportunity for Confluence to meet with staff and the advisory committee to gather information on current amenities in the parks,” City Public Property Director Doug Moore said. “It was a very productive meeting; we were able to accomplish a lot of things.”
Upgrading sports fields, such as Memorial Stadium, a destination playground, concerts and theater, a dog park, an arboretum and water activities are all topics that could be evaluated. Parks and Recreation Manager Betsy Eckhardt said she’s looking forward to getting the public’s input and continuing efforts to improve City parks. Public input is the next step in the process.
“We definitely want the community to have input on the parks they’re using because this is their community,” she said. “We want them to voice their dreams, their hopes and their visions for these parks, because it will be them and their kids using these facilities for years and years to come.”
