Today, November 28, 2012, Platte Center Schools are celebrating Karen Hake’s 45th service anniversary with the City of Columbus.
Karen was hired on July 1, 1967, starting as a librarian with the traveling Bookmobile serving Platte County schools. During her tenure, she has been promoted to Library Assistant and later to Library Assistant II. Her professional, helpful, and caring assistance to students and patrons has made her loved and well known throughout the county as “the bookmobile lady”. For a number of years, the Bookmobile was driven by someone while Karen arranged her data and books for the next school stop. However, for the past seven years, Karen has done all the driving to the schools in Platte County and goes out of her way to ensure her county patrons are well served. She has a good sense of weather and road conditions, and is cognizant of the fast moving Nebraska weather changes, so takes seriously her responsibility to return the quarter of a million dollar Bookmobile to the city before bad road conditions.
