Important facts about recent pink slip mailed from Platte County Assessor

FYI

Have you received your pink slip sent out by the Platte County Assessor regarding the 2023 Notice of Proposed Tax Increase?

Some important facts to note:

- The City of Columbus is set to lower its property tax levy by over 7% for the fiscal year 2023-2024 when it begins Oct. 1, 2023.

- As the pink note sent out by the assessor’s office states, only entities seeking to increase its property tax request by more than the allowable growth percentage shall participate in a joint public hearing.

- The City isn’t increasing its levy request, but the City also doesn’t control what other entities do. The two taxing entities who are listed on the pink postcard are Platte County and Columbus Public Schools (Columbus 1), NOT the City of Columbus.
