[ARCHIVED] Sweet deal – Columbus Senior Center fired up for October bake sale

BakeSale (1)

The Columbus Senior Center is hoping the community is feeling sweet.

Senior Center Manager Patty Laska has announced the center, 3111 19th St., will host a bake sale beginning at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 19. Funds raised will go to help the center offset home-delivered meal supplies and other miscellaneous supplies needed.

“The idea for the sale came from various conversations around the Center and the idea that it would be a good project for everyone to participate in,” Laska said. “It’s that time of the year when people start thinking about the holidays and baking. There’s nothing better than homemade baked goods.”

The Columbus Senior Center offers a wide variety of programs and activities, including low-impact and stretching courses, line dancing and more.

“We also have card groups, bingo, movies, and music several times during the month. There is never a charge for these programs,” Laska said. “Our meal program consists of a noon meal Monday-Friday in our dining room as well as a Home Delivered Meal program and to-go meals.”

That being said, making the bake sale a success will be paramount. Laska said she’s hoping the community will not only come out to purchase goodies to take home but also consider baking all kinds of sweet treats ahead of time that can go up for sale on Oct. 19. Donations will be accepted from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 18, or before the sale begins on the 19th.

“We are hoping there will be a variety of cakes, cupcakes, muffins, cookies, brownies and bars, pies and breads,” Laska said. “You can never have enough variety. Everyone has different tastes.”

Those interested in learning more or have questions can call the Senior Center at 402-563-4444. Laska said she’s hoping for tremendous participation and turnout for the bake sale, adding her desire for people of all ages to visit the Senior Center to see what it’s all about.

“Stop by the Senior Center and get your goodies and check out everything we have to offer at the Columbus Senior Center,” Laska said.
