With spring approaching we all become revitalized after the long winter. Many of the downtown businesses are planning a revitalization of their own.
Eighteen businesses will be installing new windows, doors and major exterior restorations of the buildings. These improvements are being funded by private investment by the property owners complimented with community development grant dollars awarded to the city specifically for the downtown project. The grant award was based on a competitive grant application process that Columbus successfully won. The Downtown Business Improvement District Board assisted in the development and implementation of this revitalization project.
On 13th Street, McChristy Jewelry, Wize Buys Carpet, Columbus Tire, Eakes, Antiques and Treasure, Columbus Bank and Trust, Tooley Drug, The Brides Store, Allure and Cristal’s Fashions buildings will have work going on. On 12th Street, Micek’s Bar and on 11th Street, Glur’s Tavern and 4 Jokers Bar, along with CK Planing and several other currently vacant buildings will be under renovation. Even Bob’s TV building on 26th Avenue is set for installation of new windows.
Wize Buys began their project last fall and exterior demolition on McChristy’s is presently underway.
