[ARCHIVED] Severe Weather Awareness Week

The 2013 Severe Weather Awareness Week is March 25th to March 29th.

Highlighting the week on Wednesday March 27th the Columbus\Platte County Emergency Management Agency, Columbus 911 Dispatch, and the National Weather Service will be conducting a countywide mock Tornado Warning at approximately 10:10 a.m. No evening test will be conducted. The Tornado sirens will be tested in all Platte County communities at this time. This test will provide Families, Schools, Health Care, Retail, Government, and Industry the opportunity to exercise severe weather plans.

Also, as a reminder the Tornado warning sirens will continue to be tested on the FIRST Saturday of each month at 11:00 am starting Saturday April 6th.

Columbus\Platte County Emergency Management would like to encourage everyone to consider purchasing a NOAA All Hazards\Weather Radio. This system is one of the quickest methods of receiving important information. When combined with a family disaster plan, which will enable you and your family to stand on your own for up to 72 hours without any outside assistance, you will be more prepared to respond to and recover from emergencies.

The website www.ready.gov contains information about developing family disaster plans. Also, the National Weather Service at Valley web site www.weather.gov/omaha has additional weather planning information and information about All Hazards\Weather Radios or you may contact Columbus\Platte County Emergency Management at 564-1206 or pcem@megavision.com for more information.
