[ARCHIVED] Snow Update

There have been a number of questions asked about the city’s response to the snow event occurring Tuesday. That event began with heavy wet snow that was capped by the below-freezing winds, followed by additional snow accumulation.

That snowcap remains on many streets in the city. Since the Tuesday event, city snowplow crews have had to re-plow the arterial and collector streets a number of times to keep them open due to the continued winds. The crews have also entered into the residential neighborhoods, beginning on Wednesday for an initial pass-through, and again on Thursday to widen streets where vehicles have previously been parked.

Work continues this afternoon and on Saturday where motor graders followed by a truckplow will again enter the residential areas to break that snowcap and replow. Crews are also blowing snow in areas where drifts have continued to appear, narrowing the traffic lanes.

Work to haul away snow piled in cul-de-sacs will begin Monday.
