[ARCHIVED] Prairie Pioneer

On Saturday, June 17th at 2 PM, history will again come to life at the Columbus Public Library. Karen Wyatt Drevo will come in the character of her great-great grandmother Maria Rodaway. Karen will tell you in Maria’s words about her life as a prairie pioneer in Otoe County, Nebraska, where she homesteaded in 1867. Maria crossed the Atlantic Ocean with her seven children to reunite her family after seven and a half years of separation. She endured grasshoppers, hail, drought, tornadoes, blizzards, and the loss of her husband and six of her thirteen children as she worked to become a citizen and land owner in America. Resilient and resourceful, Maria touched many people’s lives with her loving deeds and kind acts, delivering babies and nursing the sick. You will not be disappointed by this wonderful presenter. Make plans to come and learn about how the pioneers paved the way for their descendants.
