Construction on the 12th Avenue Viaduct will begin early next week. The start of construction was delayed by the Nebraska Department of Transportation to allow the general contractor to work on emergency flood related projects.
Work will begin on viaduct structures, earthwork, and utilities, which may create partial road lane restrictions or road closures in the area, except on 12th Avenue. 12th Avenue will remain open to two lane, two way traffic until spring 2020, at which time it will be closed for about a six month period. At the time of the 12th Avenue closure, a detour route will be provided. The project is scheduled for substantial completion by the end of 2020. The 12th Avenue Viaduct project is partially federally funded, and is administered through the Nebraska Department of Transportation with additional funding from the Union Pacific Railroad and the City of Columbus.
