The Columbus Police Department will be conducting a specialized traffic enforcement campaign targeting speeders during the month of August.
The month of August, historically, is the deadliest month for motorists in the state. The number one contributing factor in fatality accidents is excessive speed.
City police have identified multiple locations in which the posted speed limit has routinely been violated. The majority of speed violations at these locations have occurred during peak driving times, 6-8 a.m., noon-1 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. The police will focus on these peak driving hours.
The police department has received a $4,920.00 grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety to pay for the overtime for this special enforcement.
