Charlie Bahr was born in Columbus. He moved back with his family in 1963 and is a graduate of Columbus High School. He graduated with honors from Southwest Community College in 1973. He married Sharon (Gerber) in 1977 and is the father of three grown sons, Nathaniel, CW2, US Army (Catherine, Master Sergeant, US Army, Ret.) of Limbach, Germany and Tony and Matthew of Columbus. Charlie is employed at Ernst Auto Center in Columbus and attends St. Bonaventure Church.

Charlie is currently serving his fifth term on the City Council having first been elected in 2004 and re-elected in 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020. He currently sits on the Public Property, Safety and Works Committee, and is a member of the Joint Communications Center Committee. Charlie is involved in many civic activities including past member and President of the Columbus Library Board from 1998 to 2004 and Skills USA Collision Competition Coordinator. He has been a certified Nebraska Hunter Safety Instructor since 1984 and has served as Scoutmaster for Troop 115 since 1985. Charlie has received the Boy Scouts of America Silver Beaver Award, which is the highest adult scouting award. Other current affiliations include; member of the Nebraska Beekeepers Association and member of the Central Community College Paramedic Accreditation Committee, Grand Island Campus.
